"TORONTO — Tomas Kaberle will finish the season with the Maple Leafs, but it’s doubtful the all-star defenceman will finish his career with Toronto.

Kaberle remained with the Leafs after the trade deadline, but it wasn’t for a lack of trying to trade him. GM Brian Burke hit the ground running in the morning in a bid to make a deal, and sources say there was plenty of interest. The Flyers, Canucks, Capitals and Ducks all held talks with the Leafs.

But Burke’s asking price was high: A first-round pick, mid-round pick and a top prospect.

The Flyers were in it right to the end. They would have had to get one of C Danny Briere ($6.5 million US cap hit through 2014-15), Ws Scott Hartnell ($4.2 million, 2012-13) or Simon Gagne ($5.25 million, 2010-11) to waive a no-movement clause to free up cap space for Kaberle ($4.25 million, 2010-11).GM Paul Holmgren will revisit moving these pricey forwards in the off-season.

The Leafs, meanwhile, will likely move Kaberle in June, when they have a window to do so without his approval. The blueliner’s no-trade clause is conditional, based on the Leafs making the playoffs, which won’t happen.

Burke is expected to use the window. Why wouldn’t he? Kaberle is a valuable asset and will be the best blueliner on the market."

Egyébként szerintem jól csinálta Burke...nem voltunk rászorulva, hogy elcseréljük most rögtön, ezért csak tesztelte, hogy ki mennyit adna érte, és hogy egyáltalán ki jelentkezik. A 1st + mid pick + top prospect még lehet sok is, attól függ milyen prospectet kért, de ha valaki még azt is megadta volna max kurva jól járunk. Majd nyáron kapkodhatnak érte. Viszont a 1st + top prospect számomra is alap.
