Practice, on top of a very intense and aggressive pace, started with a players-only meeting in the dressing room. The players voiced their concerns and beefs over that three-game losing streak, and prominent in the background was the NHL standings displayed on the Smartboard digital screen.

On the ice, the defence had one of its more intense days of the season. Coaches broke down everything, from blocking shots, to inadvertently screening Leaf goalies, and the basics of positioning.

At the end of the workout, coaches brought out huge marine-style rope and mapped out shooting lanes on one side of the net to simulate the areas where defencemen need to be more aggressive in blocking shots.

It all tied into the awful penalty kill and the fact that all three losses last week were by one goal, and that in two of those losses, the club allowed two or more goals on the penalty kill.
