#Leafs President Brendan Shanahan has gotten approval for a "full-blown rebuild" from the #MLSE board after proving that the team is not a contender. With the new promise, comes a new philosophy on building slowly through the #NHLDraft and long-term projects, rather than quick fixes via trades for established players. Leafs fans, this means at least three more years of pain, and as many as five.
With that being said, the most likely players to move before March 2nd are Mike Santorelli and Daniel Winnik. They're cheap, good playoff rentals and would make the Toronto worse, helping them in their draft dive. Cody Franson will also be moved as he was unwilling to re-sign and Toronto would like to get some asset in return for him. Meanwhile, Shanahan will keep young players like Nazem Kadri & Morgan Reilly around while working on moving out the likes of Dion Phaneuf and Phil Kessel this summer. |
