CHARLIE LINDGREN – A Goaltender Who Fell Through the Scouting Cracks

1 lindgrenBoth goaltenders the Canadiens dress for Thursday’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning will have come to the organization as undrafted free agent signings out of the US college ranks.
Charlie Lindgren, who signed a free agent contract with the Canadiens Wednesday, played three years with St. Cloud State University in Minnesota after failing to be drafted by NHL teams in 2013. Starter Mike Condon was also ignored in the draft and ultimately signed with the Canadiens in 2013 after a four year college career at Princeton University.
Like Condon, Lindgren is one of those goaltenders who slipped through the scouting cracks despite remarkable success at every level he played. Three times in his draft year with Sioux Falls of the US Junior Development League he was goaltender of the month and was named USA Hockey Junior Goalie of the year while leading his team to the USHL finals. Still, when NHL Central Scouting came out with it’s final North American goaltending draft ranking he was only 19th. (Zach Fucale was number one) After being passed over he opted for St. Cloud State University.
This season Lindgren led all NCAA goaltenders in wins (30-9-1), tied for the lead in shutouts with five; was third in save percentage (.925) and fourth in goals against average (2.13).
According to scouting reports, the 6’2″ Lindgren is a very athletic goaltender with very strong competitive instincts. He is a strong skater with quick lateral movement in the crease and a quick glove. He improved over each of this three university seasons going from a .904 save percentage in his freshman year to .919 and then .925. Unlike most goaltenders, he catches the puck with his right hand.
1 lindgren iiiiLindgren took part in the Minnesota Wild’s development camp last summer. He said that there were “10 to 15 teams” interested in signing him and that “it quickly got whittled down to three” before agreeing to the Canadiens offer.
In the news release announcing the signing, Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin noted that “Lindgren was, in our mind, the best fre-agent goaltender available coming out of the U.S. College level.”
The Canadiens have five goaltenders under contract for next season; Carey Price and Condon as well as Lindgren and Zach Fucale in the professional ranks and Michael McNiven who was signed to a three year entry level contract last September after also After signing McNiven went back to junior hockey with Owen Sound this season. Hayden Hawkey, a Canadiens sixth round draft choice in 2014, played in five games during his freshman year at Providence College with a 1.67GAA and .940 save percentage.

BROSSARD, Quebec -- Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban will not play against the Detroit Red Wings at Bell Centre on Tuesday.
It will be the ninth straight game Subban has missed because of a neck injury sustained March 10.
The Canadiens are 2-6-0 in Subban's absence, scoring 15 goals, allowing 31 and going 1-for-21 on the power play in that span.
Coach Michel Therrien said he expects Subban to play at some point over the final five games of the regular season following the game Tuesday against the Red Wings.
He also said he expects right wing Brendan Gallagher to be back in that time. Gallagher will miss his 11th game Tuesday with a lower-body injury sustained March 5. He has been skating on his own but has yet to practice with the Canadiens.

In recent seasons, Canadiens legend Guy Lafluer has never been shy to criticize the team and their struggles whenever they may pop up.
Lafluer is back at it again, and this time he’s put general manager Marc Bergevin is his crosshairs. He remarked that the Canadiens are currently a team made up of fourth lines, taking a shot at the lack of legitimate skill the roster has, and pointed to how the loss of Carey Price shouldn’t sink the team completely.
As for what Bergevin and the team has to do in the offseason?
“The off-season? They have to get some better players (laughs),” Lafleur told reporters at a charity event yesterday. “The way I look at it right now, there’s no first line, second line, third line. I think they have four fourth lines.”
“It’s strange to see that one man could make a big difference because Carey Price doesn’t score any goals,” Lafleur continued. “Some of the guys, some of the leaders have to show up a bit more and they have to take charge.” |

Itt aztan mar vannak uzeneterteku jelek a szurkoloktol is. En soha az eletben nem lattam ilyen aron jegyeket, mint mostanaban, es latod en sem mennek. Szivesebben fizettuk ki a tizszeres arakat, amikor ment a csapatnak.
Egyebkent Bergy olyan "szintelen-szagtalan semleges kemhatasu " jatekosokat hozott ide, akik a prospectek helyet foglaljak, hogy beepulhessenek a csapatba. Jo, alairom serulesekkel is szamolni kell, de nem ilyen jatekosokkal kellene feltolteni a keretet. Egy epkezlab jatekost sem hozott ide, akit idehozott, azt olyan aron, amit mashol , mas csapatban az eletben nem kapott volna meg. (Petry)

Dolnek a negativ rekordok, MT marad. Erdemben nem akartam idaig hozzaszolni a "melyrepulesunkhoz" mert elegge sok optimista hozzaszolast nem akartam az en negativ meglatasaim leirasaval megkerdojelezni. Itt sokkal melyebb a problema, mint barki gondolna. Oszinten szolva megmosolyogtam nehany optimista felvetest, de nem akartam unnepronto lenni, mert ugye a remeny hal meg utoljara. Alapjaban en optimista beallitottsagu vagyok, de sajnos az idei jatekunk, MT jovoltabol sokkal inkabb az ellenkezo oldalra billentett at. Emlekezetem szerint Price serulese elott , a ket utolso meccsen 9 golt kapott. Utana Gally serulese gyengitette a csapatot, de sokunkban felmerult a kerdes, ket kulcsember kiesese miatt nem tudjuk hozni a meccseken a formankat, es ezert becsusznak azok a nem vart veresegek. Eleinte ha jol belegondoltok Condon nagyon jol helyettesitette Price-t. Vartuk hogy "Gally jojjon vissza serulesebol, es akkor majd minden a regi lesz, hiszen az elso 9 mecccsunket megnyertuk!" Gally a winter classicon remekelt, es a csapat lemosta a medveket a palyarol. Valoszinusitem hogy azert, mert ott nem MT "taktikajat " jatszottak, hanem mint ahogy az altalaban az ilyen meccseken lenni szokott, MT is ugy kuldte oket palyara, hogy "play hard and have a fun"! Tehat nem volt elore megbeszelt taktika, hanem a csapat azt jatszotta, amit tud. Ez valoszinu megtevesztett mindannyiunkat. A csapat jo, es nehany hibatol eltekintve mukodokepes.....lenne......ha(!) nem szol bele MT. aki abszolut karaktergyilkos az en szememben.Emelint teljesen atformaltak, es Subban-ra is fekeket raktak. Teljesen elbizonytalanitottak sok jatekost, mert teljesen mast jatszattak veluk, mint ami az igazi karakteruk. DD-tol, Pciorettyn at, Chucky, Subban Emelin, mindenkit beleertve. nehanyan csodalkoztatok, hogy olyan meccseket veszitettunk, hogy 49-et lottunk kapura, az ellenfel 22 -jevel szemben, es megis kikaptunk 3 gollal. Ilyen felallasban egyaltalan nem volt meglepo szamomra, az edzo elkezdte a jatekosait blamalni a veresegert, es soha nem gyakorolt onkritikat. Senki nem beszelt arrol, hogy minden meccsunk arrol szolt, hogy mennyi "takeaway" mennyi "giveaway es turnover" van egy-egy meccsen. A veresegek kulcsat ezekben az altalam emlitett szavakban talaljuk meg, nem Price , vagy Gally hianyaban, ehhez meg hozzajon Chucky mellozese, Plekanec onzosege, DD teves szerepeltetese, Markov rossz formaja, Subban-Emelin karaktergyilkossaga, es meg sorolhatnam tovabb, de ez nem eleg? Raadasul egy inkompetens edzot a GM ilyen veresegek arnyekaban megerosit a poziciojaban. Mi mast varhatnank, mint ami van? Subban is "elment szabira" mert nem akar ennek reszese lenni, nem veletlen jelent serultet (szerintem).

The NHL announced on Wednesday that former Canadiens defenceman Jarred Tinordi — now with the Arizona Coyotes — has been suspended for 20 games for performance-enhancing substance abuse.
It might well explain why Tinordi was so hard to trade. Players and agents know these things. They know who is juicing. They know the party boys. And it gets around the league. It would certainly make it more understandable how Tinordi went from being the team’s #1 prospect last year to low-rent trade bait this year.

The Canadiens announced Friday night that Dale Weise and Tomas Fleischmann have been traded to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for forward Phillip Danault and a second-round pick in the 2018 NHL draft.
“Phillip Danault is a young and gifted player who will be part of our core group of young forwards for many years to come. I am very pleased to have him join our organization. As a member of the Blackhawks management group, I was instrumental in the selection of Phillip in the first round of the 2011 NHL Draft,” Marc Bergevin said in a statement.
Danault, 23, from Victoriaville, has one goal and five assists in 32 career games with the Blackhawks. He was picked 26th overall in the 2011 draft, from the QMJHL’s Victoriaville Tigres and Moncton Wildcats. He’s 6 feet tall and 201 pounds.

Michel Therrien Confirms Two Huge Change To His Lineup
aujourd'hui.
As the Montreal Canadiens players prepare for tonight’s game against the Nashville Predators, Michel Therrien has announced that tonight’s game will bring two big changes to his lineup.
The Habs coach has decided that Jarred Tinordi will finally play his first game of the season after missing the first 34 games. Jeff Petry will sit out with an upper body injury.
Therrien also chose Dustin Tokarski as his starter after Mike Condon’s excruciating 6 goal loss agains the Dallas Stars on Saturday.

CANADIENS ACQUIRE FORWARD LUCAS LESSIO FROM THE ARIZONA COYOTES IN RETURN FOR CHRISTIAN THOMAS
MONTREAL (December 15, 2015) – Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced today the acquisition of forward Lucas Lessio from the Arizona Coyotes, in return for forward Christian Thomas.
Lessio, 22, recorded 12 points (7 goals and 5 assists) in 24 regular season games thus far this season with the AHL’s Springfield Falcons. He served 12 penalty minutes. The 6’1’’ and 212 lb left winger posted five points (3 goals, 2 assists) and 10 penalty minutes in 29 career regular season games in the NHL.
A native of Maple, Ontario, Lessio was the Coyotes second round selection, 56th overall, at the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
