The Panthers sent forward Joey Crabb to their AHL affiliate in San Antonio on Friday, just a day after he played in his first game of the season.
Crabb, 30, has a one-way contract with the Panthers meaning he will be paid his NHL salary ($600,000) while in the minors. Crabb was waived at the end of training camp but wasn't claimed. Crabb is signed through next season.

There has been some talk between the Maple Leafs and some teams about Jake Gardiner. If the Leafs are going to consider trading Gardiner, it would be for a young asset or assets. Friedman speculates that teams like the Stars, Panthers and Wild might be interested. Gardiner was impressive during the Boston series last year, but some scouts still have questions.

Thanks in large part to an out-of-hand third period, the Panthers and Blues combined for 100 penalty minutes in the game. In the third period alone, the two combined for 86 minutes. Krys Barch, Erik Gudbranson and Jessie Winchester for Florida and Chris Stewart, Ryan Reaves and David Backes were all assessed 10 minuted misconducts and sent to the locker room early.

20 years after the introduction of the franchise, a No. 34 is once again gracing the Panthers crease.
Signed to a one-year contract last Thursday after going through camp on a PTO, veteran net minder Tim Thomas selected No. 34 as the number he'll don and it's all in honor of the Panthers first netminder, John Vanbiesbrouck.
"Growing up, John Vanbiesbrouck was one of the guys that I looked up to," said Thomas on the goaltender who was selected with the Panthers first pick in the 1993 Expansion Draft. "Especially being a fellow American and he's from Michigan."

It's always a special moment for a player when he scores his first NHL goal. But for the Florida Panthers' Aleksander Barkov, his goal made a bit of history.
The second pick of the 2013 NHL Draft, Barkov's goal in the third period of the Panthers' 4-2 win at the Dallas Stars on Thursday made him, at age 18 years, 31 days, the youngest player to score in a game in more than 70 years.
According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Barkov is the youngest player to score his first goal since Jackie Schmidt of the Boston Bruins at age 18 years, 11 days, scored for the Boston Bruins in a 7-6 defeat of the Toronto Maple Leafs on Nov. 22, 1942.

Multiple media outlets reported Sunday night that the Panthers have signed free agent defenseman Ryan Whitney to a one-year contract. TSN's Bob McKenzie is reporting the deal is worth $900,000.
Whitney confirmed the signing, but terms of the deal have not been disclosed by the team.
"Very excited and honored to sign a contract with @FlaPanthers," Whitney said via his Twitter account (@ryanwhitney6). "Can't wait for season to start."

The New Jersey Devils traded forward Krystofer Barch and a seventh-round pick in 2015 to the Florida Panthers for forward Scott Timmins and a sixth-round pick in 2014, the Panthers announced Saturday.
Barch, 33, spent part of the 2011-12 season with the Panthers. He had no points and 41 penalty minutes in 22 games for the Devils in 2012-13. He has 12 goals, 31 points and 713 penalty minutes in 326 NHL games in his career.
Timmins, 24, was a sixth-round pick in the 2009 NHL Draft. He's played 24 games for the Panthers, including five during the 2012-13 campaign, and has one goal and no assists. He had 11 goals and 24 points for San Antonio in the American Hockey League last season.
Barch is in the second year of a two-year, $1.5 million contract, while Timmins is on a one-year, two-way deal worth $600,000 if he spends the entire season in the NHL.
