notes: C Dominic Moore did not practice due to illness. … D Mattias Ohlund had arthroscopic surgery on both knees in Tampa, performed by team medical director Dr. Ira Guttentag.
Boucher said the sloppiness by both teams is similar to what he sees around the league this time of year, from the fumbling pucks and turnovers to weird goals. He knows his team has a lot to improve on, especially the turnovers, but liked the battle level.
"Basically, it was a dogfight," he said. "We know they got an incredible team, they've got no weaknesses. They're the No. 1 team, ranked in our conference. We battled hard to the end."
végre játszottunk egy jó meccset. viszont meglehetősen malacosak is voltunk, három ilyen szar gólt lőni ellenünk szoktak. szóval köszönjük meg az 1 pontot Vokounnak. szerintem jobb volt a Caps, szóval megérdemelték a 2 pontot.
Tampa Bay Lightning defenceman Mattias Ohlund will undergo arthroscopic surgery on both knees on Tuesday morning and could be out as long as four to six weeks.
"We missed him the first month and a half of the year (last season), and it looks like we're going to miss him for the first month and a half, two months of the year," Boucher said. "So it hurts because what it does, we have to put (Victor) Hedman against the top lines, not that he can't do the job, he's been our best defenseman. It asks a lot of other guys that are not really in some of the spots (they) should be in...
"All I know is we've got a guy that plays against the top lines that we don't have. And you can't replace that. It' really puts a major hole in you're lineup and we've got a major hole in our lineup."
Tampa Bay continues on its season-long five-game, 10-day road trip, with its third stop on the tour coming at the Verizon Center against the reigning Southeast Division champion Capitals.
Bruno Gervais will make his Lightning debut tonight. Matt Gilroy will sit out. Mattias Ritola will make his season debut.
“We are not going to necessarily keep the same guys three or four games in a row. We want to get guys in and you don’t want to be that guy that is taken out, so it will create some internal competition. All the top teams in the league have that, so players better get used to it. That’s how we are going to get better, because there is so much competition and guys are going to want to keep their spots, so they are going to want to give a little bit more.” – Lightning head coach Guy Boucher, on rotating different forwards in the lineup for each game
"We were in this game going into the third, but if it wasn't for our goaltender, it could've been a three-goal game at that point," said forward Martin St. Louis, whose 300th career goal was the only scoring for the Lightning. "They just kind of circled our players. We got outplayed, outpoised, outmuscled and outbattled. There wasn't much positive to take out of this game, besides the fact that our goalie gave us a chance going into the third period. …
"It's not good enough. I know it's a back-to-back, but we've got to be better than that."

Boucher took a dig at rookie RW Brett Connolly after one lackadaisical drill with the basic message he's not in juniors anymore. He also was tough on the first power play unit — forwards Vinny Lecavalier, Ryan Malone, Steven Stamkos, Marty St. Louis and D Eric Brewer — that passed the puck beautifully but seemed reluctant to shoot.
"Gentlemen, we will not score one goal if we don't shoot the puck," Boucher said. "We don't need a perfect play. We need a shot on net."
(Try to guess where Boucher used expletives for emphasis.)
szerintem Tyrell csak addig lesz Norfolkban, amíg minden csapat összeáll és már nem kell félnünk Jones-ék waiveren történő áteresztésén
THE BUSINESS: Boucher said Dana Tyrell's demotion to AHL Norfolk was "sending a player down who doesn't deserve to be sent down." Tyrell, 22, was the final cut because he was the only bubble player who did not need to clear waivers.
"It's the business," Boucher said. "But we're not going to lose sight of the fact that he was the most in-shape player in camp. But we built our depth at forward, and there's a lot of guys who can play in the NHL who have different contracts, and we have to look at that."
Looks like that's what Boucher is going with to start the season.
He said Downie has worked on the 1st line with Stammer and Marty in the past, so he get's first shot at playing with them. The 2nd line of Malone-Vinny-Purcell Boucher said he liked against Montreal so he might stick with that. Connolly will start out on the 3rd line to ease the pressure and so he won't have to go against the other team's top guys. And then the 4th line with be some combo of Pyatt, Jones, Hall, Thompson, and Ritola.
