“Right now we’re not going to be the most talented group, but I don’t have a problem with that. We’re going to walk out every day with our head held high because we’re going to compete. We’re going to practice that way, train that way, we’re going to eat that way, we’re going to sleep that way. We’re going to be Maple Leafs.”
Babcock
Rob has worked with and seen thousands of kids, but he’s only ever seen one Mitchell Marner. “He’s just an amazing thinker. I’ve never had anybody who could see the game like him. I remember I had his brother Chris, who was a ’93 so Mitchell was 5 or 6 years younger, for a private lesson. Mitch would correct Chris’s mistakes during drills and show him how I wanted it done. “No, Chris. Like this.” At times he would go to a position on the ice before I told him, anticipating where I’d want him for the drill I hadn’t even begun. It was always that way. Mitch does things that we’ve developed that just amaze me. Like the backhand. We’ve done so much work there and now I see him deliver a back hand saucer pass from behind the net to center ice, on the tape. It’s just wow. And I’ve had lots of kids, Tyler Seguin even, but Mitch is the best. But Mitch is Mitch, he’s just humble and cool, “Hey, Coach Rob. Sure Coach Rob.” He’s just a good person and he plays the game right. He understands it on a level I’ve never seen. He doesn’t stay out too long even though he doesn’t really tire, Mitch doesn’t change on the back check, things like that. Mitch always makes the plays he’s supposed to make. He’s gone through a lot of crap about his size and not being big enough all the way through and he’s never complained. The night he lost the scoring title in the OHL he just said “It’s okay Coach Rob. I’ll win another scoring title some time. I’m just happy Dylan won.” But that’s Mitch for you.” I asked Rob about Marner’s incredible stamina, as he finished 2nd in the fatigue testing at the Draft combine. “We would be doing drills and I’d say “Need a break, Mitch? No, Coach Rob. Need a break Mitch? No, Coach Rob. Yeah, well I do. That’s what he is though. He’s a high end athlete and talent. He was born for this. He was born to be an NHLer, there’s no question. And he’s a great young man that will be happy with whoever drafts him. He just wants to play in the NHL and do his best.”
A tough player to gauge this year. I don't think he had a terrific season, but you have to factor in a few things when evaluating him. Firstly, Sarnia was far from a juggernaut offensively and when Zacha was out of the lineup, Korostelev was counted on as the go to guy offensively. This was something he was not ready for. Secondly, his potential remains sky high. I think for me, the most disappointing aspect of his game this year was his lack of growth away from the puck. As a rookie last year, there were times where he was physically dominant, flashing power forward potential. But he largely shied away from playing that way this year. He'll need to learn that playing that way is going to be the most effective way for him to create room to use his fantastic shot/release. As a goal scorer, the potential is limitless because of how little room he needs to get shots off. When he upgrades his skating, he's going to be a hard player to contain coming down the wing, where he can use defenders as screens. Overall, you draft Korostelev hoping that his skating improves and that he's able to play more aggressively when he upgrades his strength. This is the chance that the Kings took on Tyler Toffoli back in the day and Korostelev's skill level profiles in a similar way.
Úgy tűnik vagy skilles támadót vagy szép nagydarab védőt húzunk. (kivéve Lindgren)
Torontoban született. Die hard Leafs fan. Termetéből adódóan hátul erősebb a játéka, intelligens védőnek írják...viszont előre se rossz, igen komoly bombákat tud megereszteni a kékről.
Reliable defender that can eat up minutes due to his smart play in his own end and his strength along the boards. Uses his size to his advantage and protects the puck well. Knows his game inside and out; he knows what he can and can't do. In this, he knows how to push his limits and break down boundaries. What he can work on would be quicker decision making and quickness through the neutral zone. All-in-all, a well-rounded defenceman who has the tools and the work ethic to be successful moving forward.
Újabb alacsonyabb szélső, viszont elég masszív a testfelépítése.
“Fireplug winger who arguably is the most dangerous player in the entire Q.A tremendous stickhandler and agile skater who can make any defender look bad. He basically is a perimeter player who can center of the puck and control it in most areas at high speed while patiently reading his options. You are not drafting a strong defensive player but the trade off is a guy who makes odd-man rushes and match-up challenging the entire game. “
“Possible first round sleeper who has come out of nowhere with eye-popping skating, skills and swashbuckling offensive skills. An aggressive offensive player you will jump up in pinches and fake defenders to him and place the puck to an opponent or simply freeze the defender and blow on by. Incredibly cool and confident, with legs and moves that sometimes don’t work, but cause defenders to think about what they might encounter on the next touch. He has elusive puck control that isn’t going to ever stay back if he has an inkling he can make a play. His feet let him get back when the puck is turned over in transition. A bold gunslinger who needs to get stronger, bigger and continue to progress. Displays Karlsson-like attributes and seems on a quick developmental track to the first round if there is a team looking willing to take the chance to watch him progress.“
Újabb kisebb szélső. Nagyon hasonlít Bracco-hoz, csak balszélső.
Dzierkals is an incredibly quick and energetic forward who plays the game at an unmatched tempo. He has a dynamic, electric skill-set that makes him incredibly tough to contain as a defender. Never stops moving his feet and can burn most defenders on the rush as he cuts down the wing. Quick stick and slick puckhandler gives him versatility to beat defenders down the middle. Size is a big question mark standing at 5’10, but continue to add lower body strength in order to protect the puck in tough situations at the next level. We was a force this season with Riga in the MHL and representing Latvia at the U18s and U20s.
Szép nagy állat már most. Tipikus shutdown D, viszont előre se rossz. Idén 57 meccsen 24 pontot gyűjtött össze rookie-ként a WHL-ben.
Viszont őt talán később is behúzhattuk volna.
"Big heavy defenceman, plays a physically hard game, has an edge and he can back it up, sometimes makes the wrong read and stands a guy up with a hit while another forward sneaks past him, at other times his defensive decisions are good, has a hard shot, skating is decent and what he lacks in skating he can mostly make up for with long stick and reach, played a key role for a weak team where he faced a lot of tough competition despite being a rookie."
Playmaking winger.
The highest rated “undersized” prospect by all major media outlets, Jeremy Bracco, went into the combine as the shortest prospect on record - a fact he merely shrugged off. The Boston College commit is one of the most entertaining players to watch in the entire draft; he has undeniable talent and should be viewed as one of the best playmakers, not just in the draft, but in recent prospect memory. Bracco set the new U18 record for assists last season with 64 apples in 65 games. Over two seasons with the U18 program, Bracco is statistically the best U.S. NTDP playmaker of all time with his combined 122 assists. Considering the players who’ve come out of that program, Bracco’s accomplishments are worth taking note of. Hopefully come Draft Day, his ability to play the game and not some grandfathered belief of old timey hockey will shine through--because Bracco and company, like notable undersized players before them, deserve a shot to disrupt the league and it’s belief that bigger is always better.
Jó kis two-way D lehet belőle.

Marner to @strombo: "I wanted to play for this team my whole life."
An intelligent, mobile defenseman that capitalizes on offensive chances when they arise and is quick to recognize his post and backcheck hard. Doesn't force plays or take a lot of chances; rather, he plays it simply, letting the game come to him. Decent physical game, but not overly physical as he can lose some size matchups. All-in-all, a two-way defenseman that makes smart, high-percentage decisions in all three zones. (Curtis Joe, EP 2015)
Folyamatosan cseréljük hátra a draftjogunkat.
Leafs trade pick 24 to Philadelphia for 29 and 61
Leafs flip 29 to Columbus for 34 and 68.
Draft day.
Na akkor leírom nekem mi a dream scenario:
Hanifin/Marner a 4. húzással.
