There are no plans for drastic change in Toronto, including the firing of head coach Ron Wilson.
"No coaching change," said Maple Leafs GM, Brian Burke via e-mail, no doubt frustrated by his team's play and the predictable line of questioning that inevitably follows each Leafs' loss.
Fans at Air Canada Centre called for Wilson's job during a 5-0 loss to the Edmonton Oilers.
The hometown crowd's frustration grew when Sam Gagner scored with three seconds remaining in the second period to put to the Oilers up 3-0.
Gagner's eighth goal of the season killed Toronto's comeback hopes and displayed the Leafs' inexperience and unwillingness to fight back.
Watching Edmonton's youth in Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle shine at the ACC was painful, however, discontent in Leafs Nation won't be enough to end Wilson's reign.
"Have the players quit on Wilson?" "No," said a source close to the team.
Jonas640:
New lines:
MacArthur-Grabovski-Kulemin.
Armstrong-Versteeg-Kessel.
Sjostrom-Bozak-Brent.
Orr-Mitchell-Kadri-Rosehill.
Armstrong végre visszatér a Bruins ellen.
Many will remember Rynnas from a nationally televised pre-season game in which the Detroit Red Wings shelled him and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Some may also remember Rynnas’ first three starts of the AHL season, all in October, in which he allowed a combined 11 goals to go with a save percentage well below .900. As the calendar turned, however, so did Rynnas’ play.
All totaled, in ten games in the month of November, the Maple Leafs off-season signing posted a record of 5-2-2, helping to lift the offensively challenged Marlies out of the bottom of their division. In those ten games, he was only beaten for 13 goals, giving him a goals against average of 1.33 and a save percentage of .957. Rynnas’ increased playing time was ultimately a trickle-down effect of the Jean-Sébastien Giguère injury; one which may have been a blessing in disguise for the Maple Leafs, as Jussi Rynnas is certainly beginning to play like a high-end goaltending prospect, recently having out-dueled one of the top goaltending prospects in hockey in Jacob Markstrom.

"Just try to shake things up to see if something positive can come of it," Wilson said. "[Nazem] seems to have played fine at the wing. Now the challenge is can he be creative offensively without being a real detriment defensively. I think he understands that and that's what his little challenge is right now."
"Yeah they kinda eased me into it which is nice," said Kadri. "I've still got a lot to learn, I know that, but this is a step forward for sure.
To make all the pieces fit into place, Wilson was finally forced to break up the one successful line he's had this season, the trio of MacArthur, Kulemin and Grabovski.
“I wish I didn’t have to,” Wilson said of his former top line, “but for the present right now if we’re gonna give an opportunity to Nazzie in the middle, I have to break up the line so that we have balance.”
“I think the most important guy on that line will be Clarke MacArthur,” Wilson explained of MacArthur, who leads the Leafs with 18 points. We need someone who’s gonna be really responsible defensively and I think Clarke can do that."
3 meccsen 6+3
As the NHL’s Dec. 19 Christmas roster freeze approaches, the talk is the Toronto GM has been trying to land a top centre — with the Maple Leafs attempting to stay in the playoff race.
As was reported in this space last week, the belief is Burke has already laid the groundwork to deal for Dallas centre Brad Richards. But it is expected the Stars won’t deal Richards until the Feb. 29 trade deadline approaches.
There’s talk the Leafs could be talking to Anaheim GM Bob Murray, who wouldn’t mind shaking up the Ducks. Anaheim would likely want a defenceman in any deal.
Time is ticking since Burke has a self-imposed trade deadline of 10 days before the Christmas freeze.
“They may need a centre, but I don’t know who is going to give him one,” said a league executive. “Plus, he doesn’t have a whole lot of assets to trade.”
