Erik Erlendsson tells us that owner Jeff Vinik tried twice to talk Martin St. Louis out of leaving the Bolts: Despite holding two sit-down discussions with St. Louis to let him know how much he meant to the organization and community, Vinik was one of many who were unable to talk St. Louis out of requesting a move to the Rangers. The trade happened Wednesday and landed RW Ryan Callahan, a first-round draft pick in 2015 and a conditional second-round pick in 2014 that turns into a first-round pick if the Rangers reach the Eastern Conference finals this season.
“We would’ve loved to have seen Marty finish his career with the Tampa Bay Lightning sweater on,’’ Vinik said. “I was very direct in telling him that my dream is that you finish your career here and you lead us to another Stanley Cup.
“But I understand Marty’s reasons. It played out the way it did and we wish him well. He’s been a great player for this organization, is arguably the best player we’ve had in our history, and I hope things go great for him and his family in New York.’’
When it came down to finalizing the details, Vinik took a step back and allowed general manager Steve Yzerman to make the best move for the organization.
“We honored his request in terms of working out a deal to the one (team) that we were allowed to talk to, the Rangers,’’ Vinik said. “I’m a pretty level-headed guy, and so is Steve Yzerman, so we play the cards as they come out of the deck.

"...That's one way to look at it, but today is also the dawn of a new era. This is Stammer's team now, and the future is bright. Nobody wants to talk about it, but as great as Marty and Vinny were, and as much as they meant to this franchise, they were just too old to play much of a role in the long-term future of this team.
Obviously Marty is still playing at a high level, but some really tough decisions were going to have to be made when his contract was up after next season. Now that isn't a concern anymore.
Salo, Brewer and Malone are now the only guys on this team who are over 30-years-old. Stamkos doesn't have to play in anyone's shadow anymore, and it's exciting to think about what he can do as the undisputed face of the franchise.
There will be a time in the future to reflect and celebrate the legacies of Marty and Vinny, but that time is somewhere down the road, just not right now. Those two are still active players in the league, they're opponents just like every other NHL player who doesn't wear the bolt.
As sad as yesterday was, today is a day for celebration. The future starts now."

szerintem jo dontes volt. ertem, amirol beszelsz, es sokkal szerencsesebb is lett volna, ha Lajos nyaron lep le es mindent szepen le lehet osztani, fel lehet epiteni.
most viszont minden van a csapat haza tajan, csak nyugalom nem. miota Lajos tavozasi szandeka kiderult, szetesett a csapat, tragikusan jatszottunk, pocsek eredmennyel. fontos volt, hogy amilyen gyorsan cdak lehet, lapozzunk, hogy a fiatalok az oltozobe lassak, kezben van a gyeplo, nem tetovazik senki sem. igy is lehetett volna persze medifelhajtast csapni kore, de nem ugy dontottek. nem hibaztatom oket erte. jo lenne mielobb kikeveredni a katyubol. a tegnapi jatek erre mar tokeletes volt. nem hiszem, hogy minden ellenfel megussza ilyen makosan, mint a Sabres, ha igy toljuk es egyuttal csokkentjuk hatul a hibak szamat. na meg visszajon meg Gudas is...
